Researching the Things to Do in Vancouver

Last night we got to see the Laser Waterwork Show from our deck over in Yaletown already. I hear it's supposed to start on the 12th so it must have been the warm up show. It really made me think that I need to get a better idea of when everything is happening around my place. Therefore I have dubbed today "Internet Day 2010". Here's what in the works so far...

A few things have already started that we need to get out and take some pictures of, expect those to come soon. Specifically, we need to check out Canada's North House - already open and looks pretty cool. There's also the Vectoral Elevation which we've seen for several nights but really need to get some good shots. And then there's the ZipTrek line that runs over Robson Square. I saw photos of Gordon Campbell riding it - now it's my turn! We can't forget about the Lunar Festival on Granville Island too. I've walked by and it's very cool - I hope that some of these things stay in Vancouver after the Games.

Then during the week we can look forward to Casa Italia opening on Monday, the 8th. It's located one block north of the LiveCity Yaletown in the Roundhouse. The Irish House opens on Tuesday.

Wednesday will be busy with BC Hydro's Power Smart Village opening at Dunsmuir and Hamilton. We'll also have to head down to the Burrard Inlet to try to see the Russian Tall Ship. And Sochi House is also supposed to open that day too.

Thursday things really start to ramp up because LiveCity Yaletown opens that day, as well as Coca Cola Pavillion. We've also got to visit the Place de la Francophonie on Granville Island. Germany Fan Fest will begin, bringing an Octoberfest like atmosphere to downtown Vancouver.

I'm also looking forward to seeing the Four Host First Nation Pavillion. I've been walking by it every day and it looks so beautiful from the outside. Thursday or Friday might be the day to take pictures there.

Of course Friday will be a very busy day! Lots of things are happening, opening and celebrating. I can't wait to see the torch relay and the Opening Ceremony. Many of the other pavillions are opening that day too. It will probably just a matter of walking around and trying to see it all.

If you're looking to show your Canadian spirit, virtually, check out these cool wallpapers. I've also seen that there is a digital souvenir you can sign up for.

Finally (after that long laundry list), the Cultural Olympiad has already been running for a week or so and I'm still trying to get my head around those events. I guess we'll just have to mix them into our week where we see fit!
